Operating Model Design
Every company has an operating model. Few ever designed theirs.
Describing the current operating model and designing a target operating model that supports the strategy. The result is a documented target operating model with a transition roadmap.
Usual
What you often get
A target picture in diagrams: capabilities, processes and systems, neatly arranged in layers. Below it, a transition plan that starts from a blank page. How day-to-day business keeps running during the change is written nowhere.
IntoOps
What you get from us
We start from how you operate today, not from a blank page. The transition is planned in steps that day-to-day business can absorb. And our operations design & setup team builds the new workflows straight away, with no extra provider.
Service components
5 components. Each one available on its own.
-
How capabilities, processes, people and systems work together today.
-
Design of the future model across all dimensions.
-
Which capabilities are run in-house, shared or outsourced.
-
Committees, KPIs and decision routines.
-
Steps, sequence and dependencies from today to the target model.
What you'll have at the end. Results you can check.
- A description of today's operating model with strengths, bottlenecks and cost drivers.
- A target operating model that aligns processes, organisation, systems and locations.
- For every capability, a reasoned decision on who will deliver it in future.
- A governance calendar: which forum meets when and which metrics it sees.
- A transition plan with an owner for each step and fixed checkpoints.
When you need this. And how you'll know.
- The business is growing, but the effort grows just as fast.
- After acquisitions, several companies operate side by side, each with its own processes and systems.
- You're thinking about outsourcing accounting, service or IT, and don't know which.
- The new strategy is set, but organisation and systems still fit the old one.
- The same tasks are done in several places, simply because it grew that way.
Rarely alone. Never bundled.
Operating Model Design often works together with these services. We'll tell you honestly when a combination makes sense, and when it doesn't.
Shows up in these initiatives.
You don't need a whole initiative to get Operating Model Design. These examples show where the service is often needed.
Good questions. Straight answers.
Isn't this the same as organisation design?
No. Organisation design clarifies structure, roles and collaboration. The operating model also connects the organisation with processes, systems, sourcing and governance.
Often the two belong together.
Will you end up recommending we outsource everything to you?
No. First the model is defined, then you decide who runs an outsourced function. Our offer is one of several options.
If a function is better kept in-house, the result says so.
Is this worth it without a corporate group structure?
Yes. Mid-sized companies in particular often grow for years without ever consciously designing their operating model. Then a lean target picture of a few pages is usually enough, rather than a thick concept.
Proof first. Contract second.
In the free Initiative Check, we listen for 45 minutes and ask the questions that usually only come up after the contract is signed. Then you get a short written assessment: what we see, how we would go about it and roughly what it would take.
No obligation. And if we're not the right fit, we'll tell you.
